From the 6th of April 2016, it is a legal requirement to have your dog micro-chipped. It’s an important way to identify pets in case they get lost or stolen. Details will then be kept on PetLog – an online database which can be easily accessed so that you can keep your records up to date. It’s recommended that puppies from the age of 8 weeks should be micro-chipped. Here, we use Back Home Mini Chips which is inserted under the skin between the shoulder blades where it can be scanned at any time. These Mini Chips are 8mm long – smaller than a grain of rice! This means a smaller needle for our pet and less discomfort. Don’t forget that cats and rabbits can be micro-chipped too! Phone us here at Hollyoak Veterinary Surgery and we’d be happy to micro-chip your pet!
